Biography
Hello! My name is Joyce Suarez and I am currently a freshman in Rider University. Before attending Rider University, I resided in West New York, New Jersey and graduated from Memorial High School. In Rider University, I am majoring in Biology with a minor in Health Administration. After graduating Rider University, I plan on attending Medical School to become an Emergency Medicine Doctor. I decided I wanted to become an Emergency Medicine Doctor after becoming an Emergency Medical Technician, which has helped me to get a lot of experience in the field of emergency medicine. The reason why i chose to become an Emergency Medical Technician was because a few years back, I watched two EMTs revive my grandfather from Cardiac Arrest. This really motivated me to become an EMT and In about a year or so, I plan on becoming a Paramedic, which is the next step after becoming an EMT. The difference between both is that Paramedics have a higher scope of practice than EMTs. I feel that volunteering/working in E.M.S. is going to prepare me for a career in the medical field and it is something I have grown a huge passion for. Not only is EMS giving me experience, but I am also giving back to my community by volunteering in EMS. My grandmother always told me, do what you love and not what pays most. Luckily, I can now say I found what I love and that is emergency medicine. For the moment, I have laid out several short-term goals, which are to find a part-time job as an EMT in the Trenton area, become a fireman, and obtain a 3.5 GPA. I hope you guys follow my blog and continue to read up on my posts, so you can know a little bit more about me.

EMT Prayer
God…
Grant me the ability to give emergency medical care.
With skillful hands
Knowledgeable mind
And tender loving care
Help me deal with everything
When lives are on the line
To see the worst, administer aid,
And ease the worried mind
So help me as I go today accept what fate may be
Tough these hands, use this mind,
Help this EMT.
Amen
As a new EMT, I felt that this prayer calmed my nervousness!
Grant me the ability to give emergency medical care.
With skillful hands
Knowledgeable mind
And tender loving care
Help me deal with everything
When lives are on the line
To see the worst, administer aid,
And ease the worried mind
So help me as I go today accept what fate may be
Tough these hands, use this mind,
Help this EMT.
Amen
As a new EMT, I felt that this prayer calmed my nervousness!
ALL-TIME RIDER UNIVERSITY GOAL!
Since Summer 2009 I have had a goal, which is to start my own club in Rider University. The club would be called, "Rider Emergency Medical Services," and it will provide students in Rider University with medical care prior to an ambulance arrival. All students participating in the club will have to be EMT-B Certified and CPR Certified. In this post, I am going to give you guys the Purpose, Mission, and the Logo I designed for the club.
Purpose: The purpose of the Rider University Emergency Medical Services (REMS) is to provide quick and professional medical care to all of the students, faculty, administrators, employees, and visitors of Rider University as well as the surrounding community in times of need or disaster.
Mission: The mission of REMS is to make the Rider University campus safer by adding an extra layer in the current plan for emergency medical response. REMS is not intended to replace ambulance transport services, but rather to initiate treatment prior to ambulance arrival. This includes but is not limited to; response to general medical and trauma emergencies, car accidents, and also coverage for large university events, concerts, theater performances, and sports event. REMS will also provide CPR classes to community members, promote general wellness, and help other students obtain their EMT certification.

Persuasive Speech
On November 3, 2009, I presented a persuasive presentation to my fellow classmates on why they should support Stem Cell Research. I am a true believer of Stem Cell Research because I feel that the cure to a lot of diseases can be found by researching these cells. A lot of people are not well educated on the topic, which is why they do not support the research. Personally, I feel that if everyone in this world was a little more educated on the topic it would not be one of the most debated topics because so many great things can be done with these cells. Therefore, I chose this topic and enlightened my classmates with the positive and negative effects of the research. I have posted the outline, PowerPoint presentation, and video of my presentation. I hope you enjoy it and become a supporter of the research, as well as those who heard me present.
